At Core Ten you can enjoy all the benefits of infrared heat therapy in the comfort of our large 4-man infrared sauna. Core Ten’s infrared sauna uses ceramic heaters that emit far infrared heat to directly heat the user unlike the traditional Finnish Saunas which use steam, to heat the surrounding air and thereby the user.
In an infrared sauna, the infrared heater produces radiant energy, which is the same as the heat from the sun, only without the harmful ultraviolet rays. The radiation hits the surface of the body and heats through a process called conversion, instead of heating the air around you. The temperature in an infrared sauna typically runs at around 110° to 140° F, producing the same amount or more sweat in a much more comfortable environment than in a traditional sauna which typically heats the surrounding air to between 169° to 190?°.
Infrared saunas have been shown to have many significant health benefits:
- Detoxification – Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal, stay healthy, and detoxify. Sweat carries toxins out of the body and pushes it through the pores. Skin is the largest organ in the body and it plays a significant part in the detox process. Detox from an infrared sauna is 7 to 10 times greater than from a conventional sauna because it operates more effectively at temperatures 60 to 80 degrees lower than conventional saunas, allowing you to more comfortably stay in longer.
- Relaxation – is more important to your health than most people realize. Scientific evidence shows that far infrared therapy helps the body maintain healthy levels of cortisol which is the “fight or flight” hormone that can wreak havoc on your body.
- Weight loss – Studies have shown a 30 minute far infrared sauna session can burn up to 200-600 calories. As the body works to cool itself while using a far infrared sauna, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate. Blood flow during whole body hyperthermia is reported to rise from a normal 5-7 quarts per minute to as much as 13 quarts per minute. Journal of the American Medical Association, August 1981.
- Pain Relief – Radiant heat expands and dilates peripheral blood vessels. This action brings nutrient rich blood to the area experiencing pain, giving relief to muscles and soft tissue injuries. In addition, increased blood circulation delivers oxygen rich blood to oxygen depleted muscles, helps reduce pain and speeds up the body’s natural recovery process. It has been shown to be effective in the reduction of pain from arthritis, back pain, muscle spasms, joint stiffness and many other muscular-skeletal ailments. Several case studies have shown that regular infrared sauna treatment can aid in reducing the discomforts of rheumatoid arthritis.
- Lowered blood pressure – Repeated far infrared sauna treatment improves impaired blood vessel functions in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. This suggests a preventative role for infrared sauna use for arteriosclerosis.
- Improved circulation – Heating of muscles with far infrared produces an increased blood flow level similar to that seen during exercise. Body temperature elevation also produces an increase in blood flow. Infrared heat assists in resolution of inflammatory infiltrates, edema and exudates. The increased peripheral circulation provides the transport needed to help evacuate the edema which can help end inflammation, decrease pain and help speed healing.
- Improves skin – Perspiration releases toxins carried in the lymph fluid and purges clogged pores of deeply imbedded impurities and dead skin cells leaving you with radiant glowing skin. An increase in blood circulation encourages a healthy flow of nutrients to your skin which, in turn, helps to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, and burns. It also encourages the healing of lesions and minor cuts.
